The covid-19 pandemic has adversely affected the economy of Singapore with a large number of people losing their jobs. According to the Ministry of Manpower in Singapore, the number of workers losing their jobs has increased since January. Experts claim that between 150,000 and 200,000 people have lost their jobs. Most people realize that it will be difficult to get a permanent job in the current business conditions. Hence they are willing to do part-time jobs which will pay them for the time they spend, instead of remaining idle at home. They would like to find out what are the common part-time jobs in Singapore at present so that they can apply and get the job.

Delivery person

Since covid-19 is a highly contagious virus, healthcare agencies are recommending that people remain at home to reduce the possibility of getting infected by the virus. Also individuals who are testing positive for the virus are told to remain at home in isolation to avoid spreading the infection to others. Since the individuals who are remaining at home will still require a large number of essential commodities like food, milk, medicines, the demand for delivery persons has increased to a large extent during the covid-19 pandemic. Many businesses are hiring delivery persons to cater to the increased demand for home delivery services

Additionally many people are avoiding visiting crowded marketplaces and are ordering items where they will be delivered to the address which they specify. Hence there is a significant increase in the demand for reliable and honest delivery persons who are familiar with the different areas of Singapore. Usually the delivery person should at least have a two wheeler license, though in some cases, businesses are willing to pay more for four wheelers when large items like home appliances or furniture have to be delivered. Most employers prefer to hire delivery persons who are professional and will offer good customer service.

Healthcare screening/temperature checking

Since one of the main symptoms of Covid-19 is a high temperature, increasingly organizations of all sizes are checking the temperature of all visitors before allowing them to enter the business premises. Hence they are hiring part time workers who will check the temperature of the visitors and block access to visitors whose temperature is higher than the prescribed limit. This requires some people management skills, since some people will object to getting their temperature checked or when they are not allowed entry in a particular area. This work experience can help in getting a permanent job in the healthcare sector in future

Social distancing

Though most people are aware that social distancing will reduce the possibility of getting infected with and spreading the infection, many people do not follow the social distancing norms specified by the healthcare department. Hence ambassadors who can ensure that the healthcare norms to prevent covid-19 spread are strictly enforced can make up to $2500 monthly. In addition to contributing to curtailing the pandemic in Singapore, this experience will be very helpful in any career where interpersonal skills are important, especially convincing others.
