Upcoming Bikes under 5 lakhs in India

With the lockdown restriction easing upon us, manufacturers have started rolling out their fresh crop of BS-VI enabled products. This means some of the automobiles that were discontinued earlier this year instead of getting updated to the stringer BS-VI emission standards are coming soon on our way.

If anyone is still unaware, the Indian government decidedly skipped BS-V (or Euro 5) emission standards due to the ongoing toxic situation. Therefore, it decided it’s best for us to directly skip to BS-VI emission norms from BS-IV, which were now much cleaner and greener. BS-VI approved vehicles emit fewer pollutants in the air, which is a very nice thing for us since there are many states in India that have been rated.

However, updating a vehicle to meet the said norms isn’t a fairly easy task. Therefore, many motorcycles, scooters, and cars were discontinued earlier this year hoping to make a return later in BS-VI form. I’ve compiled a list of all the motorcycles that are coming your way – ranging from 1 lakh to 5 lakhs in the price – very soon. So, here goes.

1. Royal Enfield Meteor 350

The legendary motorcycle maker has been testing its new crop of motorcycles for quite some time and we’ve also seen a few spy shots flying around the internet for the same. The Royal Enfield Meteor 350, then, should be the first product to come out later this year – in a couple of months, to be more precise. Replacing the venerable Thunderbird in its line-up, the Meteor shall appear to those who seek comfort while riding their motorcycles. There might also be different urban runabouts of the Meteor 350 – which could be named Meteor 350X – in the pipeline. Let’s just hope Royal Enfield prices it right for the Indian market.

2. Kawasaki Ninja 400

Talking about making a return in BS-VI form, and the Ninja 400 comes first in the list. Of course, the abovementioned motorcycle will be compliant with the said norms, but it will be an entirely new product as opposed to the slightly upgraded Ninja 400. The Ninja 400 is already known for its extremely nice dynamic prowess in the country. It also has a massive cult following amongst riders and enthusiasts.

3. Kawasaki Z400

Another motorcycle from Kawasaki that’s slated to arrive very soon in the Indian market in its BS-VI guise is the Kawasaki Z400. It is, essentially, a stripped-down version of the Ninja 400, which will be powered with the same engine as its sibling. We expect it to hit the showrooms at the same time as the Ninja 400, but it will be priced slightly lower than it, making it more accessible to enthusiasts.

4. Benelli 402S

Since last year, Benelli has really taken the Indian market rather seriously. Having launched the Leoncino 250, Leoncino 500, and Imperiale 400 since only a year, Benelli is also set to introduce its new offering, the 402S in the Indian market before the end of this year. As we’ve seen it in the photos, the 402S bears a large resemblance to Ducati’s Diavel 1260, which was launched last year. Therefore, if it arrives as per the leaks, it might be the most handsome looking motorcycle in the space.

5. Aprilia RS 150

We’ve been waiting for this one for the longest time now. The Aprilia RS 150 – which might be priced under 2 lakh bucks – is expected to arrive in a couple of months in the Indian market. This will be the brand’s first affordable motorcycle in the market. And, going by the looks of it, if Aprilia priced it right, it might take this space by the storm.
