How to prepare for JEE in the last week

The joint entrance exam (JEE) is considered to be one of the toughest entrance exams in India. Students all over India compete to get the best scores so that they can get into top IITs. To achieve the best score, every student spends almost 8-10 hours for the preparation. For some students, the preparation span is one year. For some, it is two years too. Irrespective of how long you prepare, the last week before the JEE exam is the most crucial time for the students. This article is going to tell you how you must prepare for the last week of JEE exam.

1. Consider last week only as revision time:

Consider the last week before the JEE exam only for revision. Since the students might already complete their intense preparation by this time, it is time for intense revision. In this week, you need to brush up on all the important concepts, formulas. It is recommended not to take up any new topics. Starting a new topic in the last week can reduce your revision time which can impact both your exam and exam score. In this revision phase, it is advisable to cover all the syllabus instead of choosing the important topics selectively.

2. Skim the notes:

Take the notes that you have prepared for one or two years during the intense preparation and go through each page of it. Going through the notes is the best way, instead of reading the whole book. The time can be saved.

3. Taking up mock tests:

The importance of mock tests for both JEE mains and advanced is a known thing for every aspirant. Surely during their preparation phase, students might have taken up numerous mock tests every day.  Students need to increase this number of mock tests before the week of the exam. Since the mock tests will be in the same way as the final JEE exam, it can greatly help your final exam. After completion of every exam look into mistakes and analyze them keenly. So that it would not be repeated in the final exam.

4. Look into previous years’ question papers:

To score well, looking into the previous years’ question papers along with the mock tests is of utmost importance. It is recommended to go through papers of the last 10-15 years starting from JEE main 2021 question papers

The practice of mock tests and previous years’ question papers can improve your speed and accuracy to great extent. So it is advisable not to neglect them while revising the concepts.

5. Devise a strategy plan for attempting the exam:

Some students might do maths much faster than physics. Some other students might do physics faster than chemistry. Generally, every student will be faster in some subjects. That is why it is preferable to devise a plan for your final exam. It is an easy thing to do. With a lot of taking mock tests, students might have already know their strong subjects and strong areas. So, plan it accordingly.

For instance, you can do maths well, but physics might take you some time in solving problems. So, when you start attempting the paper, start with maths. So that, physics get more time.

Thus, decide a plan according to your strengths in the subjects.

Other necessary things to follow:

Apart from the preparation strategies, there are also some other “to do” and “not to do” things in the last week before the exam. The below mentioned are some,

1. Don’t compromise on sleep:

Since there is only one week left, many students get anxious, nervous. This could only reduce your performance potential in the final exam. So, you should not compromise on your sleep. It is good to sleep at least 6-7 hours. Students are advised not to adopt for long night study hours. Just make it to bed before 11.00 PM and rise early before 06.00 AM.

2. Don’t overthink:

Many of the students start to exhaust themselves by overthinking “how they do during the exam?”. Do not overthink. Focus all your concentration on the revision rather than negative thoughts.

3. Stay away from social media:

A week before the exam, you should stay away from all the social media apps. Using social media can distract and divert your concentration on unnecessary things. This not only wastes your valuable time but also makes you tired for preparation. Hence it is highly suggested not to use any social media apps.

4. Do not fret yourself with your friend’s group talks:

Usually, in friends groups, some students may boast that they completed every important topic, done with all the previous years’ question papers, all ready for the exam, and so forth. Never let the words enter your mind. Everyone’s preparation is different from the others. They might complete the syllabus first but you might score the highest in your friend’s group. In fact, hearing such talks might ruin your revision and preparation time. So, do not feel anxious about other people’s talk.

5. Be positive:

Mental strength is very much crucial for challenging exams like JEE. Negative thoughts like self-doubt can only harm you rather than good. Remember all your hard work for the exam and continue with a positive mind.

6. Do take a break:

Taking breaks is very necessary during revision time. Constantly preparing for the exam and devoting your time completely to it can make both your body and mind tired. Thus, taking breaks can refresh your minds and again boost your concentration levels. So it is highly advisable to take short breaks of 10-20 min for every two hours. However, during these breaks, do not open your mobiles for refreshing your mind. During your break time,  try to go for a short walk, enjoy the dusk, do meditation, etc. This can booth relax and refresh your mind.

Conclusion:

In short, spend your week before the exam in

  • Revising the important concepts
  • Taking up mock tests
  • Looking into previous year question papers
  • Skimming the notes
  • Covering up all the syllabus

Ultimately, spend the last week before the exam smartly
