Howard Allen Stern was born on 12th January 1954 in New York, U.S.A. He lived in Jackson heights, Queens, with his parents, Bernard and Ray Stern. In 1995 the family moved to Roosevelt. When he was 5 years old, he developed interest and considered to take up a radio career in the future, as he went to his father’s recording studio WHOM, where he witnessed some of the greatest voices at work like Wally Cox, Larry Storch and Don Adams. This also influenced him talking on the radio rather than just playing music. He attended the Washington Rose Elementary School and later attended the Roosevelt Junior-Senior High School. In 1972, he enrolled in the Boston University for his basic studies. After a year there, he visited the college’s radio station where he started playing music, read the news and also hosted some interviews. He was also involved in a 3 man comedy show “The King Schmaltz Bagel Hour” which was later disbanded for inappropriate content. He then enrolled into the university’s School of Public Communication in 1974. He then studied for a diploma at the Radio Engineering institute of Electronics. His first professional job was at the WNTN network from August to December in 1975. He also taught students basic electronics for their FCC examinations.

In 1981 he then moved to D.C. to work for the WWDC network. He then worked for the WFBR, Baltimore and was paired with Robin Quivers.
